History

The Hellenic Commission of Military History (HCMH) was established in 1980, according to a degree of the Minister of National Defence. Its purpose was to provide scientific historical services for the promotion of military history, in the framework of the International Commission of Military History (ICMH).

On July 27th, 1998, after a mutual resolution between the Minister of National Defence and the Deputy Minister of Finance, a Scientific Commission was formed, in its current form, under the name “Hellenic Commission on Military History (HCMH)”.

The HCMH belongs directly to the Deputy Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff.

It is located at the Military Camp Papagos (227-231 Mesogeion Ave, Athens).
