Deputy Chief of Defence

Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymousis HN has been appointed Deputy Chief of Defence since the 9th of March 2020. He was born on the 29th of June 1963. He joined the Hellenic Naval Academy on 12th of September 1982 and graduated in 1986 with the rank of Ensign of the Hellenic Navy.

Among his sea duty assignments he served as CIC, Communications/EW, Crypto, Weapons Officer, Executive Officer and Commanding Officer.

Regarding his shore/staff assignments he was positioned as Head of Directorates/Branches/Departments of Fleet Headquarters and Hellenic Navy General Staff, Commander of the Hellenic Fast Patrol Boat Command. From 2004 to 2007 he was stationed in USA as the Hellenic National Deputy at the NATO Sea Sparrow Project Office.

On 5th of March 2015, he was promoted to Commodore and on the 30th of March of 2018 assumed the duties of Commander Hellenic Frigate Command. On the 1st of February 2019 he was promoted to Rear Admiral and on 7th of March 2019 assumed the duties of Deputy Commander in Chief of the Hellenic Fleet.

He was promoted to Vice Admiral on 9th of March 2020 and assumed the duties of Deputy Chief   of Defence.

Vice Admiral Ioannis Drymousis HN holds the following Qualifications/Degrees: EW (Electronic Warfare Officer (year of graduation 1987), Naval War School (junior officer) (year of graduation 1990), Weapons Officer (year of graduation 1995), Master of Science in Computer Science (NSP-USA) (year of graduation 1995), Naval Staff Officer School (year of graduation 1997), Naval War School (year of graduation 2002), Hellenic National Defence College (year of graduation 2012).

He is married and the father of a daughter and a son.

He holds all Greek Armed Forces’ decorations and Medals up to his rank.
