Vice Admiral Christos Sasiakos GRC N

DEPUTY CHIEF OF THE HELLENIC NATIONAL DEFENCE GENERAL STAFF

Vice Admiral Christos Sasiakos GRC N is the Deputy Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff. He was born in Tithorea. He joined the Hellenic Naval Academy in 1984 and was commissioned as an Ensign of the Hellenic Navy in 1988.

He has been specialized in Radio Communications and Signalling as a Lieutenant Junior Grade from the respective Hellenic Navy Specialization and Education School. As a Lieutenant, he graduated from the Hellenic Naval Staff School and as a Commander from the Supreme Joint War College. In addition, as part of his staff training, he has attended various courses in NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany such as NATO Operational Planning and Crisis Management.

As an officer of the Hellenic Navy, his junior fleet assignments include inter alia serving as Assistant Ops, Comms, EW and Navigation officer on board STANDARD Class Frigates followed by appointment as XO of HS AKTION (M.L.C Class). Subsequently, he assumed duties as Air Defence, Principal Warfare Officer and Operations Officer mainly on-board Frigates. Furthermore, he has also served as Executive Officer onboard the STANDARD Class Frigate HS ADRIAS.

Regarding his command duties he was assigned as Commanding Officer to the THETIS Class Gunboat HS NIKI and later on to the STANDARD Class Frigate HS ELLI.

His shore assignments include Section and Division Head Officer at the Hellenic Fleet HQ in particular as Head of the Operations and Comms Department (2004-2007). At the Hellenic Navy General Staff, he served in the Personnel and Career Directorate. In addition, at the rank of the Commander, he has also served as a Staff Officer in Plans and Policy Directorate of the European Military Staff from 2009 to 2012.

Since 2015 to 2016 as a Captain assumed duties as Director of the Executive Office of the Chief of HNGS.

From July 2016 to July 2017 as a Captain commanded the 1st Frigate Squadron of the Hellenic Frigate Command and subsequently from July 2017 to March 2019 assumed duties as the Director of the Operational Training and Evaluation Directorate of the Hellenic fleet.

As a Commodore from 2019 to 2021 directed the C Branch of the HNGS dealing with Weapons Electronics, Logistics Plans/Policy Infrastructure matters of the Hellenic Navy.

Furthermore, as a Commodore commanded Hellenic Frigate Command from 2021 to 2022 and in March 2022 was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral and assumed duties as a Director of the HNGS Armaments’ Directorate.

In March 2023 assumed duties as Superintendent of the Hellenic Naval Academy.

In January 2024, he was assigned the duties of Deputy Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff.

Regarding his higher academic education, he holds a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering focused on Comms Eng from Naval Postgraduate School of Monterey CA, USA (1998 – 2000).

Vice Admiral Christos Sasiakos GRC N is married and has two sons. 

He speaks English.

He holds all Greek Armed Forces decorations and Medals up to his rank, including UN Peacekeeping Operations Medals.
