From Saturday 11 to Monday 13 May 2024, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Choupis, paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia, upon the invitation of his counterpart, the Chairman of the General Staff, General Fayyad Bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili.

On Sunday 12 May, the official reception took place at the Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Saudi Arabia, followed by a meeting between the two Chiefs, during which issues of mutual interest were discussed, focusing on the current situation at the regional and international levels, as well as on emerging security challenges due to the prevailing hotspots of instability worldwide.

During his stay in Saudi Arabia, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff also met with the Commander of the Saudi Royal Air Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Mazyad bin Sulaiman Al-Amro and they discussed matters related to the development and operational functioning of the Greek PATRIOT Missile System Battery, within the framework of its participation in the international initiative “Integrated Air Missile Defense (IAMD) Concept” to support the Kingdom’s air defense.
