On Tuesday, March 12 2024, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) General Dimitrios Choupis welcomed the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT), General Philippe Lavigne, as part of his official visit to Greece.

Before transitioning to the HNDGS, the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation laid a wreath at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square.

During the meeting, issues of strategic importance were discussed with an emphasis on current regional and international defence and security challenges, (especially on the latest developments in Ukraine and the Middle East).

The Chief of the HNDGS pointed out the decisive role of Greece in consolidating stability and security in the Southeast area of NATO and in the wider region, while he emphasized the active and practical participation of the Hellenic Armed Forces in activities and operations of the Alliance.

General Philippe Lavigne referred to the Alliance’s prospects for evolution and to the contribution of the Hellenic Armed Forces to the alliance’s activities, highlighting the credibility of Greece.

Upon concluding his official visit, the Chief of the HNDGS accompanied SACT to the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikos Dendias.
