From Monday 12 to Friday 16 February 2024, and in the context of the Military Cooperation between Greece and the USA, a bilateral joint training was conducted under the coordination of the Special Warfare Command (SWC) of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS), in the Pieria area.
The activity was a continuation of a similar one that occurred from Monday 08 to Wednesday 17 January 2024 named «Odyssey Encore» focused on the sustainment of infantry unit level tactics, culminating with a fire support coordination exercise with aviation and ground fires. Together, Greece and US forces partnered again to enhance Cold Weather Training and Tactics, increasing the interoperability between the participating Greek and US Armed Forces.
From the Greek side, personnel and assets of the SWC participated, while from the US side, personnel and assets from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) (Special Operations Capable) participated.
During the training, Greece and US forces received classroom instruction centered on cold weather and mountain warfare tactics, followed by practical application, as well as, training in a cold weather field environment on Mount Olympus, marking the first time for a Allied force to train a Mount Olympus Mountain Training Center.
This activity demonstrated the long-standing relationship between Greece and the USA and the continuous enhancement of their cooperation in the field of Special Operations, aimed at supporting security and stability in the broader region.
