On 8 April 2020, the Integrated Air and Missile Defence Centre of Excellence (IAMD CoE) Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place at the Allied Command Transformation (ACT).
Greece offered the IAMD CoE to NATO on 30 July 2018, as the Framework Nation. Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Romania and Turkey supported this offer by becoming Sponsoring Nations, following the finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding. The IAMD CoE is located in Chania, Crete.
Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) General Andre Lanata (Air Force,FRA) as well as National Liaison Representatives from Greece, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Romania and Turkey participated in the event to sign the operational and functional MoU.
General Konstantinos Floros, the Greek Chief of Defence and the IAMD COE Establishment Team Flag Officer, offered remarks during the event by Virtual Teleconference. First of all he expressed his deepest condolences to the delegations of the aforementioned nations due to the COVID-19 victims. Moreover, he emphasized Greece’s vision with regard to the CoE and asserted that the IAMD CoE’s mission enhances interoperability and supports the development and exploitation of the IAMD capabilities of the Alliance as well as Partners.
Finally General Lanata provided closing remarks to thank Greece for its commitment and its willingness to host and support the IAMD CoE endeavour.
