The Hellenic National Defence General Staff announces that the Promise-Oath taking Ceremony of the first year students, who entered the Nursing Officers Academy, will take place on the premises of the Institution, in « SAKETTA» Camp, in Athens, on Friday, 27 October 2006, at 10.30. The students of the current academic year are 40 (28 women and 12 men), including one Jordanian.
The Nursing Officers Academy was established in 1946, after World War II. Initially, the Academy was based at 401 General Military Training Hospital, on the premises of Petraki Monastery, in Athens. It has been relocated several times until 1992 and since then it has been stationed on its permanent premises, in ” SAKETTA A ” Camp.
In 1949, the first female Nursing Officers graduated the Academy and staffed the Hospitals of the Army. In 1954, the Nursing Officers Academy became a Joint Services Academy and, since then, graduate Officers have staffed Hospitals of the three Services of the Armed Forces. In 1989, the four (4) year course of studies was enacted and, in 1990, male students were admitted to attend the Academy.
Since 1992, Nursing Officers Academy constitutes a Supreme Military Educational Training Institution, equal to the Universities of the country. Since 2005, education is provided by the Athens Kopodistrian University – Nursing Faculty.
The mission of the Academy is to educate and provide the Armed Forces with regular Nursing Officers, able to correspond to their nursing task as to the prevention of diseases and the cure of people, in peace, as well as in war periods.
The ceremony will be attended by the B΄ Deputy Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff.
