The Hellenic National Defense General Staff announces that the Oath taking Ceremony and the award of Service sword to the graduates of the Nursing Officers Academy will take place on the premises of the Institution on Friday, 14 July 2006 at 09.30. The Service Swords will be awarded  to graduates by the Minister of National Defence Mr. Evangelos-Vasilios I. Meimarakis in the presence of  the  Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff  ,  Admiral  Panagiotis  Chinofotis.

 

 

The graduates of the current academic year are 43 officers- 29 women and 14 men- and will be allocated to the three (3) Services of the Armed Forces, as follows: Sixteen (16) officers to the Army, twelve (12) officers to the Navy and fifteen (15) officers to the Air Force. Among the graduates, there are three (3) officers from the Albanian Army.

 

 

  The Nursing Officers Academy was established as a School  in 1946, after World War II. Initially, the Academy was based at 401 General Military Training Hospital, on the premises of Petraki Monastery, in Athens. It has been relocated many times until 1992 and ever since it has been stationed on its permanent premises, in   ” SAKETTA A. ” Camp.

 

 

In 1949, the first female Nursing Officers graduated from  the Nursing School and  were allocated to Hospitals of the Army. In 1954, the Nursing Officers School became a Joint Services School and, since then, graduated Officers have staffed Hospitals of the three Services of  the Armed Forces. In 1989, the four (4) year course of studies was determined by an Act, and in 1990 male students were admitted to attend the Academy.

  

 

From 1992, Nursing Officers Academy constitutes a Supreme Military Educational Training Institution, equal to the Universities of our country, revising the status of the School to Academy. From the previous academic year, education is provided by the Athens University- Nursing Faculty. 

 

 

The mission of the Academy is to educate regular Nursing Officers and allocate them to the Armed Forces. These officers will be capable to correspond to their nursing task, as to the prevention of diseases and the cure of people in peace and war periods.
