Οn Wednesday 28 February 2018, Chief of  the General Staff of Israel Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Gadi Eisenkot paid an official visit to Greece, following an invitation extended to by HNDGS Chief, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN.

During bilateral talks, the security environment of Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East was discussed. Furthermore, issues concerning the current bilateral military cooperation and the prospects of its enhancement, especially in the operational-individual training, SOF, information exchange and cyber defence domains, were brought up.

HNDGS Chief underlined among others that:

  • The current volatile security environment requires the widest possible development of international military partnerships in tackling common security challenges.
  • Hellenic Armed Forces undertake initiatives to promote military cooperation with states in Balkans, North Africa and Middle East.
  • Continuing the implementation of training events at the bilateral and multilateral level, will further promote the existing high level of Greece-Israel military co-operation.
  • NATO Maritime Interdiction Operations Training Center (NMIOTC)-IDF cooperation on maritime security domain will be mutually beneficial.

Lieutenant General Gadi Eisenkot was also briefed on Greece’s defense policy and Hellenic Armed Forces main issues and priorities and visited the National Operations Center.

Israeli Chod, during his stay in Athens, visited the archaeological site of Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum.
