It is announced that the Accession Ceremony of NMIOTC to NATO will be held at Chania, Crete, on 14 October 2008.
The mission of NMIOTC is to provide joint training to NATO naval units, aiming at enhancing their capability in carrying out surface, air and underwater surveillance missions, as well as conducting special operations to support Maritime Interdiction missions. Furthermore, it will provide training the warships of PfP, Mediterranean Dialogue Initiative member- states.
The Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Ioannis Plakiotakis, and the Supreme Allied Commander, Transformation, Gen. James N. MATTIS, accompanied by NATO High ranking officials, have been invited to attend the accession ceremony.
Additionally, a press conference will be given by the Chief/ HNDGS, the SACT and the NMIOTC Commander, Commodore Ioannis Zouzias.
