It is announced that, following an invitation extended by the Chief of the Turkish General Staff, General Yasar Buyukanit, in the framework of the existing Confidence Building Measures, the Chief /HNDGS, General Dimitrios Grapsas , paid an official visit to Turkey from 25 to 28 May 2008, to further enhance military relations between the two countries.
The meetings focused, in particular, on the following:
– Review and assess the implementation of the Confidence Building Measures and examine techniques to maximize their effectiveness
– Ways of implementing the recent Confidence Building Measures announced by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
– Evaluation and assessment of the security environment as well as of the interrelated factors which affect its stability.
– Current security situation in the Balkans and the Middle East.
