On Wednesday 18 May 2016, MoU was signed between the President of the Hellenic Red Cross, Dr. Antonios Avgerinos and the General Secretary of the United Arab Emirates Red Crescent, Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al-Falahi at HNDGS HQs. The MoU contains an agreement concerning the construction of a refugee hosting center in the ”Efthimiopoulou Camp” in Koutsohero area, prefecture of Larissa, by the UAE Red Crescent, and the hand over to the competent Hellenic authorities.
The above hosting center, will accommodate up to 1700 refugees in prefabricated units, and it will be built by using domestic resources. The premises will include medical facilities, child friendly space as well as logistical facilities.
The aforementioned MoU, a HNDGS Chief’ s initiative, is part of a broader coordinating role undertaken by the Ministry of Defense in dealing with refugee crisis and will contribute essentially to alleviate the problems caused by the refugee flows.
