On Wednesday 7 December 2016, the HNDGS Chief, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN and the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Hegazy, attended a series of the Bilateral Maritime Exercise “MEDUSA 3/2016” drills, on board ENS TAHYA MISR and HS NABARINON, sailing in southeastern Aegean and Cretan Sea.
On Thursday 8 December 2016, the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, laid a wreath at the Unknown Soldier monument. Subsequently, the official reception ceremony took place at the HNDGS HQs.
During the bilateral staff talks, the HNDGS Chief and his Egyptian counterpart discussed the current security challenges concerning the area of common interest as well as issues related to the prospects for further strengthening of the bilateral military cooperation. The Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces was briefed also on the Hellenic Armed Forces organization, mission and role.
In addition, the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces was received by the Alternate Minister of National Defence, Mr Dimitris Vitsas.
