From 1 to 4 June 2014, the NATO Seminar concerning short -sea shipping was held at Athens Multinational Sealift Coordination Centre (AMSCC).
he seminar is held at an annual basis and is organised by the ΝΑΤΟ/TGOS (ΝΑΤΟ Transportation Group Ocean Shipping). For the current year it was organised under the auspices of HNDGS via the AMSCC, in the context of promoting the capabilities of the Centre in the field of Strategic Sealift. The Conference was attended by 70 participants from12 countries as well as by Mr. Paul Jaenichen, US acting Maritime Administrator , representatives from the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, the Greek Union of Shipowners , representatives from major Shipping companies and the Hellenic Coast Guard.
During the seminar:
a. issues concerning the piracy in the Gulf of Guinea were discussed, as well as cyber threats in port infrastructures and installations, the latest progress marked in automated global positioning systems and the availability of merchant ships’ crew during their missions in war zones.
b. the participants visited the symbol-ship of the Greek Merchant Shipping “HELLAS LIBERTY” at the Port of Peireaus which is also a floating museum.
c. the participants had the opportunity to visit exhibition “POSEIDONIA 2014” in which AMSCC participated for the first time.
