From 7 to 10 May 2014, the 19th Congress of Balkan Military Medical Committee was held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
The Congress was attended by 173 Medical Corps Officers from the BMMC Member States (Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Turkey). The Greek delegation participated with military and civilian personnel of the Medical Corps from all Armed Forces Services, as well as with students from the Corps Officers Military School, headed by the HNDGS/Medical Corps Director.
During the Congress the Greek delegation presented 80 dissertations (31 oral ones and 49 posted reports). The scientific level of the dissertations was deemed extremely high and the curriculum involved contemporary issues concerning the medical community of the Member-States Armed Forces.
Following the completion of the congress the best dissertations were awarded with a prize – each country receiving two prizes – one for the “Best National Oral Award” and one for the “Best National Poster Award” respectively.
As far as the Greek delegation is concerned, the Best National Oral award was awarded to Lt Colonel (MC) Ioannis Karellas from 401 General Military Hospital, for his dissertation entitled “ Ultrasound measurement of ocular nerve sheath diameter can be used for the estimation of cerebral oedema” , while the “Best Poster Award” was awarded to 1st Lieutenant (MC) Konstantinos Grapatsas from the Special Forces Training Centre for his dissertation entitled “ Control policies in the prevention and 1st degree health care in a major military Unit: the prevalence of cardiovascular nosima in young volunteers of the Special Forces”.
The 20th Congress will be held in our country, having assumed the Presidency of the BMMC for the next year.
