On Wednesday, July 10th 2012, the outgoing Defence, Military and Air Attach? of the Embassy of Hungary in Athens, Lt Colonel Zsolt ANNUS, visited the AMSCC, accompanied by his successor, Lt Colonel Zoltan KOKA. The visit was suggested by the Hungarian Embassy and was unofficial, as the procedure of accreditation of the newly appointed Defence Attach? is in progress.
The purpose of the introductory visit was to orientate the succeeding Defence Attach?, on the Center’s role, mission, capabilities, developments and latest activities. The significance of the meeting lies primarily on the fact that the new Defence Attach? will be residing in Budapest and exercising his duties from abroad, due to the temporary suspension of his post at the Embassy of Hungary in Athens.
Following a detailed presentation of the Center, a fruitful discussion took place, concerning the already existing bilateral cooperation within the AMSCC, Hungary being a member of the Center since 2009. Mutual commitment was expressed to preserve and strengthen the cooperation under the auspices of the AMSCC. Among other issues, the redeployment of ISAF Forces was discussed, in order to identify the potential contribution of the AMSCC to sealift transport operations, from the Karachi port (Pakistan) to Europe, via the Suez channel. It was proposed to the Hungarian party to examine the possibility to redeploy its forces in cooperation with the Hellenic forces, for cost effectiveness purposes.
