The sixth Balkan Countries CHODs Conference on Military Cooperation, which is a significant initiative for strengthening the military cooperation in the region, took place in Sofia, on the 13th of June, 2012 with the participation of the nine founding member states. The Conference was attended by senior military officials from NATO and other nations as guests.
The 6th Conference emphasized the importance of regional military cooperation and close neighborly relations among Balkan countries in order to maintain and improve a safe and secure environment in the region and beyond.
The CHODs attested their high esteem to Sofia for hosting “ENERGY FLAME 2011”, a multinational, NATO-PfP Computer Assisted Exercise, acknowledging it as the first of its kind Balkan Energy Security Exercise aimed at enhancing capabilities of Balkan countries in responding to security concerns and risks related to a regional crisis.
The Balkan CHODs expressed their confidence in the capacity of the Forum to provide appropriate framework for fruitful discussions regarding the 21th Century security challenges and threats.
Upon the kind invitation by Major General Xhemal GJUNKSHI, the next Conference will be held in Tirana in 2013.
All participants expressed their gratitude to General Simeon SIMEONOV and his staff for hosting the event and for their remarkable hospitality.
