NATO Transport Group Ocean Shipping Annual Seminar, 2012 was conducted in Athens Multinational Sealift Coordination Center from 23 to 25 May 2012. 

It was organized under the auspices of NATO Transport Group Ocean Shipping (NATO/TGOS) and attended by sixteen participants. Note that, Mediterranean Dialogue partners, Instanbul Cooperation Initiative participating countries and third countries as NATO’s Global Partners participated in the Seminar for the first time, besides the member countries of the Alliance and the Partnership for Peace.

The purpose of the seminar was to:

a. Encourage the allied countries to participate in the the Working Group of NATO/TGOS.
b. Strengthen the cooperation with NATO military Authorities, enabling  military  transportation planners as well as experts in merchant shipping to co-examine and discuss current issues of mutual interest.
c. Examine and evaluate the effectiveness of plans and procedures of crisis management of TGOS, as well as the ability of NATO civil experts in shipping to support the planning and conduct of sealift operations during the deployment and positioning of the Allied forces in the theaters of operations.
d. Provide analysis on merchant ships availability and determine measures and mechanisms enabling the exploitation of international shipping market in the most effective way.

The conduct of the said seminar, in Athens, not only promoted AMSCC and Greece but also gave the Greek shipping Bodies the opportunity to present, internationally, their issues of interest and areas of specialization, developing, at the same time, relations with foreign Bodies and national representatives of the participating states.
