It is announced that a seminar on Weapons of Mass Destruction during maritime interdiction operations was conducted in Nato Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Center (NMIOTC) from 21 to 25 June 2010. In that seminar distinguished lecturers from Services of NATO, the USA, OSCE and the Hellenic Committee of Atomic Energy were invited.

 

The Commander of the Maritime Interdiction Operations Center, Commodore Athanasios Makris as well as Mr. Guy Roberts, Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Weapons of Mass Destruction policy, addressed the seminar.

 

Various issues discussed regarded the efforts to prevent the proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction through land and sea routes. Additionally, presentations on the progress of the detection and supervision of radioactive materiel were made.

 

Thirty participants from seven states (Greece, Bulgaria, the United Arab Emirates, the USA, the Czech Republic, Romania and Qatar) attended the seminar.  Last but not least, the seminar was attended by representatives from the Hellenic Navy, Air Force, Police and Port Police.
