From 9 until 16 March 2016 the 20th since 1992 NATO crisis management exercise, «CMX-16» took place. The exercise purpose was to provide training on the consultation and collective decision-making procedures at the strategic political-military level.

The exercise scenario, based on Article 4 and Article 5 of the Alliance Treaty, focused on the collective defense with challenges posed by hybrid warfare threats.

The exercise involved competent national military and civilian authorities, NATO HQs and NATO Strategic Commands. No deployed forces involved. Additionally, the European Union participated as an observer and Sweden and Finland participated as partners, alongside Allies.

At the national level, personnel from the General Staffs as well as from relevant Ministries and National Authorities participated in the exercise.
