Celebration events of the 75th anniversary of the historical Crete’s Battle taking place in Crete island from 15 to 22 May 2016, will culminate in the weekend 20-22 May 2016.

The Hellenic Armed Forces supporting the competent local authorities, provided resources, thus contributing to the enhancement of the historical memory and the ties between the participating countries.

The attendance of the anniversary events will be honored by the presence of the New Zealand Governor-General, Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae, the United Kingdom Minister of Defense, Mr. Michael Fallon, the New Zealand Chief of Army, Major General Peter Kelly and the Chief of the Royal Australian Navy, Rear Admiral Timothy Barrett.

The HNDGS Chief, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN, on Friday 20 May 2016, attended an anniversary event which took place in FIRKA fortress, Chania, where he was awarded a honorary distinction by his Eminence, Metropolitan Kidonias and Apokoronou, Damaskinos.
