On Monday, May 30, 2016, the Chief of Defence, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis HN, paying an official visit to Bulgaria, laid a wreath at the Unknown Soldier monument in Sofia and met with the Chief of Defence of Bulgaria Lieutenant General Constantin Popov where they discussed issues of mutual interest and military cooperation between the two countries.

In addition, the Chief of Defence met with Deputy Defense Minister. Dimitar Kyumyrdzhiev. During the meeting they discussed issues related to the security environment in the region, focusing on the problems resulting from the refugee / migration which directly affect the Balkan countries as well as how to promote military cooperation between the two countries within the Euro-Atlantic framework.

Furthermore, the Chief of Defence met and awarded commemorative badges to members of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, who have attended military academic institutions in Greece.
